Round up #4 - Gimme A Smile

It's the 1st of the month, again! This time, the 4th month to be exact, and it was a good one. We reached the 200 000 downloads mark! Also, this month, FluxBB was downloaded 1.8 times more then in an average month. And without any new release, that is very good! What will the upcoming month bring to us? Well, for now FluxBB 1.5.4 is planned for the 15th, however, there are still some tickets to close before than launch. And of course some screenshots of the upcoming alpha 2 of FluxBB 2. If that's not enough, this month (the 27th), FluxBB will turn 5. Happy birthday! Now, because it's Aprils Fools Day, we want some laugh of course... That's why I've used today happy stuff that makes people smile. --> You can read this topic for more information about the round ups.

Plugin: FluxSmile
Does this need an explanation? It has 'smile' in the title, duh! FluxSmile is a plugin for FluxBB (another duh) that adds the emoticons from FluxBB 2 (beta 1 and higher) to FluxBB 1.4/1.5. It also adds a BBCode bar for so your users can easily edit their posts. The BBCode bar can be changed in different styles. It's a fork of the plugin we've seen in round up #2.

Style: Sun
Mmm, it's hard to find a happy style for FluxBB. I mean, there are all styles like Midnight, Sadness, Saodark, ... What happen with happiness? However, at least, there is 1 style with a happy look (that I didn't use yet in a round up) and that's the 'Sun'-style. Hardly based on Air, it does use a lot CSS3 effects. According to some CSS checkers it follows the CSS3 standards and that's how it should be.

If it isn't hard enough to find a happy style, it's even more hard to find a happy styled website. However, music makes people smile to (except for emotional music). So that's why this website is here now. Look at it, you can't recognize FluxBB! That's what I call integration! I don't think I need to say more!

Well, than, please put something happy in the style resource page, I love to see that. Everything is so dark... And the most non-dark styles are already mentioned, like Victory, etc. The only one I can come up with is EZC, but I don't take that one for a reason you will see later...

There must be variety in styles for a software. Someone like light themes, someone like dark. Users can choose what they like and what like their users.

Thanks for featuring chopaway.com, I had a lot of fun working on that one It's all a bit hacky as I was just trying different ideas and seeing what worked/didn't work etc, but that's the fun with FluxBB.

A little addition I made was to allow admins to enter HTML in their posts, which allowed me to better style topics where needed, eg:- a "tabbed" topic

No. You don't know the philosophy of FluxBB. It is a forum software and it will have functions only which must have.
There will be no functions like: db backup (duplicate functionality of phpMyAdmin, which is not forum software), PMs (duplicate functionality of e-mail, which is not forum software), Polls (polls are useful, but not for discussion in a forum), attachments (a forum is not a file magazine/hosting) and some other.

For me, PM is simplicity. FluxBB must understand this. Build the PM based on the posts.

Popular WordPress plugins aren't build in into WordPress either. That something is popular, doesn't mean it needs to be in the core.

Regarding style demo: we have not implemented this as it is quite a bit of work to do this securely, since styles can include templates, which can include PHP files, which we don't want to run on our server without knowing what they do.

WordPress is not forum. Many people are rejected due to the lack FluxBB PM.

Cons absence PM:
- Moving PM
- Dependence on the author's modification
- Out of the default package = less potential users.

This can be done based on the topics. PM would create a like posts.

Demo styles :

Use css file styles upload for demo engine, because templates are limited.

Yes, WordPress is no forum software, but they have (sort of) the same philosophy as FluxBB: what's not important, won't get in.

That's their problem. FluxBB has other philosophy than other forum softwares, such as phpBB, MyBB or SMF.
You are choosing your software. If you don't like Flux philosophy (or anyone else), you shouldn't just use it. Find something interesting to you.
