That's all up in the air right now. There are many people opposed to the idea of moving to Yii (my self included) and the team are actively looking at other frameworks (including Laravel) but 2.0 is going to be a long way off anyway. We have quite a slow release cycle and 1.8 is coming out fairly soon based on the legacy code with some major improvements.

There are many people opposed to the idea of moving to Yii (my self included) and the team are actively looking at other frameworks (including Laravel) but 2.0 is going to be a long way off anyway. We have quite a slow release cycle and 1.8 is coming out fairly soon based on the legacy code with some major improvements.
They're not the only one wit a slow release cycle...

Yes, but actuely, I think FluxBB needs to bring out new releases more often. I mean, FluxBB isn't a large project but x.x.1-releases fixes over 23 tickets. Not that there is something wrong with that, but it is if users have to wait more than 3 months on that. Why not fixing around the 10 tickets and launch an update every 3 months? There are 2 FluxBB releases with 3 or less tickets fixed and that are 1.4.7 (2) and 1.2.24 (3).
Look at WordPress, 2.0.7, 2.0.8, 2.0.9, 2.0.11, 2.0.12, 2.1.2, 2.1.3, 2.2.3, 2.3.2, 2.3.3, 2.8.2, 2.8.3, 2.8.4, 2.8.6, 2.9.2, 2.9.x, 3.0.2, 3.0.3, 3.0.4, 3.0.5, 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 3.1.5, 3.2.2, 3.3.2, 3.3.3 and 3.4.3. All this milestones fixed less then 10 tickets (most around 3). They get an average of 16 tickets per release, and than I'm counting also 2.5.1 (which was actually an major bugfix release that was planned to be part of 2.5 itself) and they are much larger, get much more man that works on it! Time to revamp the update cyclus!

Studio, If you think FluxBB 2 needs a good or a development cycle, why not suggest it in the Developers forum? I am sure some will agree and disagree and then a possible cycle may be introduced.

For now, I was talking about 1.5.x, but what I said also count for 2.0.x and onwards.

Well, the plan was to release a new bugfix release in the 1.5 branch about every three months (or if there's a security issue).
That obviously doesn't work out, but we don't want to just throw releases at people, as upgrading can be a hassle currently (with mods etc.).

That obviously doesn't work out, but we don't want to just throw releases at people, as upgrading can be a hassle currently (with mods etc.).
Every year 4 updates isn't that much. Beside, for the one that don't want to update, they can wait untill we patch an important ticket, like 673.

I am not sure about Franz's intentions for a new update script, By I would recommend you ask him to consider such an option. He is currently responsible for the development of a new update script. Either email him, Contact him on the IRC or add it to Ticket #390
I believe Franz's intention is to just create a cross version update script, But he may consider this possibility.

Ticket #390 refers to the "upgrade" script, not "update": from FluxBB 1.2, PunBB 1.2 or FluxBB 1.4/1.5 for example. I think we should definitely consider this option when we have a great hook system, or any way that allows us to edit the files safely.

I am still stuck to 1.4.2 due to that 
the slow method is better, for now.
I this we just need an extension system soon (I mean, SOON!). The rest are just "details". I am slowly dying waiting for 2.0

This is actually what I mean: you're still using 1.4.2. Yes, it's more work to stay up-to-date, but is there a need to stay up-to-date. What's te difference if (example) 1.5.1 is released in 1 big update, or 1.5.1 is split up in 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 with every 3 months a new release? You can still skip versions, that's what most of the plug-in users already do.

Does this mean the forum won't just be standard PHP, or will we still be able to include regular PHP/HTML in Fluxbb 2? eg. If I want to write a mod, or make any code changes to my forum am I first going to have to learn Laravel?
I took a look at the documentation and as an example:-
Opening a form using a given URI and request method:
echo Form::open('user/profile', 'PUT');
Will forms now be coded like the above?
If it means having to learn a new structure like that I'll be sticking with 1.5 unfortunately. I love hacking around in the Pun/FluxBB code (and have done for 7 years) but I have found I can re-use knowledge that I learn in other PHP applications. I won't have the time, or the desire, to learn all of the ins-and-outs of a framework just for messing around with my board

In 2.0, you aren't supposed to hack around inside the core anyway.
But yes, normal PHP will still be possible, and forms can still be generated the standard way.
