To be honest, I don't particularly like any of them. It might be personal taste, or it might not, but they all seem a little dated. The new default Air theme is done right, and so is the existing theme (what's it called?). With some work, Technetium might be really nice, though. sad

I also really like the new default theme of FluxBB but for some other users it may not be the case...
As we say in French :

Les goûts et les couleurs, ça ne se discute pas !

approximativ translation:

You can't discuss about what  you like and what type of colours you like!

In other words, you can't have a styling of FluxBB that will be appreciate by all... That's why I believe that (that's only my personal opinion and don't aim to influence anyone wink ) the appearance of an application is important but less important than what all users can do with that application to modify it to their needs. So the main focus should be the way you structure the css files, not the design.

Re: Style competition entries

Vote for EZC and (untitled) - very modern, but clear too ... and a real difference to the current default

Lay some suggestions on me, I can take them in. Also the current default is called Oxygen, the port of the 1.3 style to 1.4 is called OxygenB.

I will make OxygenB capable with 1.4 after I finish some style.

Will any of these styles provide different color themes too?

I would like to declinate the EZC theme in several other themes :

  • A very light theme (without icons, and light colors)

  • A dark theme

  • A theme with more icons

  • Different color shemes|

  • ...

Re: Style competition entries

Honestly, I don't like any of those themes. The default Oxygen theme is by far better then those. I personally don't like the rounded corners or the gradient bars. I like everything clean, straight & simple. Easy to customize. I like the way Flux BB stays true to the traditional forum layout. Don't change that. My only problem with the default theme is that it has way too much text. Maybe a few buttons is okay. A perfect example would be:

http://www.kaost.com/sample/button-sample.png

it still looks clean, simple and easy to customize.

I also like how VB and IP added side bars to there index page. I think dedicated members never leave the forums. A lot of these companies are building a CMS, but in most cases the index page of a bulletin board is the CMS. So maybe a design with more features to the index page would be a step in the right direction.

Here is a sample of a good layout format.

http://www.kaost.com/sample/layout-sample.png

Here is a quick design I did in fireworks (Inspired by invision & oxygen).

http://www.kaost.com/sample/flux-main.png

Maybe doing something more like this would look more professional. I use to design vb skins a few years ago and people always wanted something "Complicated" but now it seems people are focusing more on simplicity & performance. Sorry, Thats just my opinion.

Re: Style competition entries

kaost, I wish you made that mockup ~2 months ago, that is one awesome mockup and beats the rest by far, imho!

Any plans on continuing work on that design and make it an actual theme? I'd sure be using it.

Re: Style competition entries

As far as I know, this is based on the standard design of some other forum software, right?

Thats the InvisionBoard default.  Anybody who wants to risk spending time talking to their lawyers is welcome to copy it.

IP.Board is not copied at all. You could see, the button on that website is green, but the mockup shows a blue button.

Re: Style competition entries

That is not invision board default. I said it was inspired by Invision board & the oxygen theme. I can make whatever, that was just a simple rough draft of the way we should create a design. That entire design is a png file done in fireworks. Of course I would have to code it and make it less like IP.

If anyone is intrested in a design like this, then this let me know, if there is a demand for it of course. I would love to contribute to the growth of fluxbb in any way.

Re: Style competition entries

Kaost, I don't know if there are a lot people who want it, but your idea looks pretty neat.  Having some nice styles for Fluxbb 1.4 would be really cool.

I'm not a big fan of the post-indicator icons though.

That's just a sample icon I downloaded. I was just trying to share an idea with everyone. I will open a topic later "Building The Perfect Theme" and will just toss around ideas with everyone and try to build more themes for flux (Something it lacks). Hopefully it'll be a community project and people will share their ideas.

Sorry for taking over this thread, wasn't my intensions.

All discussions should be open wink That's why Board are so rich in informations! I didn't know the new Invison board layout, pretty clear and nice!
Just to go back to the main goal of this topic, could we know who the winner is of this competition? wink
