FluxBB, Updates, and PMs

Hi,

I am considering FluxBB for a forum I'm planning, but have some concerns. I'm aware that FluxBB will be merging into Flarum, and am concerned with migration among other things. Are their plans for a converter from FluxBB to Flarum? I'm also concerned with the FluxBB update process, especially when modifications are applied. How do you folks go about updating FluxBB while keeping modifications intact? Finally, what PM modification do you folks suggest I use? Is there a mod that can send people an email when they get a new PM?

I apologize if my questions are newbish; I'm still learning to be a webmaster/sysadmin, and this is new territory for me. Any help is appreciated.
