txp:tag forum

Nothing spectacular, except FluxBB 1.5.8 that is wink

This is the txp:tag forum, it's a support forum for Textpattern Themes.

Using "Air" as the default look, I'll get around to making the forum have the same look and feel of the txp:tag home page, in due time.

Installed reCAPTCHA, it was the easiest anti-bot registration plugin/mod to install, thanks Reines.

48 hours out on the live web, no bots have signed up, mucho happy smile

Re: txp:tag forum

Hmm, with 1.5.8 this addon should be much easier to install...

My bad, linked to the wrong plugin, I'm using the new-recaptcha, per the link above.

Working good so far, no bot signups, thanks Franz.

Re: txp:tag forum

Franz,

I'm happy to report that the forum has been up for a week, it went live June 30, and not one bot has signed up.

The New reCAPTCHA plugin/mod is doing a magnificent job.

Visitors are hitting the forum, activity really picked on day 3, and hasn't let up. Most of the visits emanate from Russia, register.php is #1 on the hit parade.

Now to style the forum, give it some personality.

Thank you so much.

Re: txp:tag forum

Why your forum is necessary to spammers, if it empty?

That's a question you have to ask the spammers.

I imagine they write scripts to automatically get signed up on a forum, if the singnup is successful, they can use the user id for their own needs, or sell it to other spammers who employ humans that all they do all day is spam forums, website comments, or wherever else there's interactive feedback.

The Internet used to be a fun place way back when, now, I wouldn't launch a site with commenting turned on.

Re: txp:tag forum

Got my first oxygen breathing spammer today.

He made 4 posts, so I clicked moderate forum, deleted the posts.

Went into his UserID and deleted him, saw the option to delete all his posts, I'll know next time.

Recorded his IP, sent him a Flash game to play on his computer.

2 weeks, hundreds of visitors per day, the forum is a holding up.

Re: txp:tag forum

I use StopForumSpam in my forums, it is really efficient.

	$url = 'http://www.stopforumspam.com/api?ip='. get_remote_address() .'&email='. pun_trim($_POST['req_email1']) .'&username=' . pun_trim($_POST['req_user']) .'&f=json';
	$data1 = @file_get_contents($url);
	$data = json_decode($data1);
	// Verify IP, and Email if necessary (Username won't be verified, too many false positive)
	if(($data->ip->appears || $data->email->appears)){
		message('Are you a bot?');
	}
