FluxBB 1.3 Beta 3 Postponed

As those of you who have been following FluxBB's development progress have seen, we have unfortunately not been able to make our deadline for the Beta 3 release. Real life has caught up to all the members of the development team in various unexpected ways, which has led to final work not being committed to the repository. We are very sorry that we have been unable to meet the deadline we promised.

Many of the features that we planned for the beta have been committed to the repository, but some of the most significant, including the markup revisions, have not yet been completed. Rather than releasing Beta 3 now, without those features, we have decided to take a different approach. At the request of many users, we will not be releasing Beta 3 at this point. Instead, we will be linking users to our SVN repository to download and play with all of the features we have at this point. When we are finished, we will release Beta 3 with all the fanfare it deserves. wink

You can download the current revision using this link

Edit: An issue with the database schema in the link above has been discovered. The issue affects searching and special characters. Anyone who has installed/who will install a NEW copy of 1.3 using it should be sure to download db_update.php and run it. Upgrades from the previous beta or from 1.2 are not affected.

Yes, simply replace your files with the ones from SVN and run db_update.php

And to clarify one thing, the moment any element of the forum is frozen from a development point of view e.g. markup, lanagauge files etc, that can be announced seperately and need not be dependant upon a packaged release.

I am not asking for a date and time as to when Beta 3 will be released but is it safe to say it would be this month?

As far as my end of the operation is concerned, absolutely safe.

man, take it easy, the beta3 was delayed for a reason, don't push it or we might get a new version with a lot of bugs. just smile and be happy you don't have to do all the coding yourself, we might still get it this week, but it's better if the developers can take their time and solve the bugs without us pushing them to do it.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta 3 Postponed

Probably not this week. I could do it if push came to shove but thinking about it its not a good idea. My gameplan is to get the public interface completely finished and deployed on this site and then get some feedback and bug testing, particularly of forms, before hacking admin to bits. Once I know everything is working ok then admin is just a tedious exercise in updating markup to match the public interface.

Can we have other styles than Oxygen on the newest svn?

Probably not. Other styles will be the last thing that gets done.

I'm itching to start creating some styles but I figured it isn't worth it until all the markup changes are done. Styling is about the only thing I'm good at though, I don't know much about coding and I only know some basic javascript and html. I'm hanging around on this forum anyway though since I can give some input and feedback on what is going on and to maybe make a few suggestions which aren't always that good. tongue

If the database is already fixed up it's time for a 1.28 -> 1.3 converter.

This sentence is worded awkwardly. May you reword it, because I don't really understand.

its easy, what paul meant is that once an element of the forum is frozen in development they can create smaller updates with only the files for that element.

if the language files get frozen then it means there wont be any changes to languages in the core and people can start creating translations of the forum without having to wait for the next full release.
