Moderators banning moderators?

If I'm not completely mistaken, moderators can currently (if they have the right to ban users) ban other moderators.

Is that good?

I'd say no.

Re: Moderators banning moderators?

Ok, I confirmed it.
I'll add a ticket soon.

Interestingly, I banned myself when I did this on my test board because both moderators had the same IP. Can we do something against that?

EDIT: I think I should ban Frank just for fun.

I imagine the most we could do is when banning an IP it would check how many user accounts that IP is used on, and if more than 1 pop up a warning with a list of account names, asking for confirmation.

Re: Moderators banning moderators?

Yeah well, the point is that the last used IP of that user is automatically added to the ban form when adding a ban for a user.

But then, when thinking about it, this feature probably makes sense and it's very purpose is to prevent these guys from creating multiple accounts. Banning an account is not enough for that purpose, so just ignore my point. It would only be useful on test servers - so mainly for developers again.

Re: Moderators banning moderators?

This is not good, they should only be able to ban regular users.

Re: Moderators banning moderators?

IPs don't really mean much. I mean, most can get a new one by simply resetting their modems. Just saying.

Re: Moderators banning moderators?

This is slightly more difficult than I thought.
Couldn't I, as moderator, simply ban the email address of a fellow moderator to circumvent this?

UPDATE: That's actually only a small problem. But, going further, does it make sense that moderators can later delete bans of, say, moderators? Or is that another pair of shoes?

Re: Moderators banning moderators?

Banning on email address applies to new registrations and changing to a banned email address. Therefore, it is not possible to ban existing moderators this way, however, it is possible with usename and ip.

Would it be better to ignore banning for administrators and moderators? The appropriate step would be to demote them instead.

Re: Moderators banning moderators?

Good point, thank you.
Banning administrators doesn't work anyway - they can still do everything.
I think simply ignoring moderator bans for no obvious reason (to the user) would be confusing, too. I think that those should still work.

Re: Moderators banning moderators?

We don't want moderators to ban other moderators. Then banning should not apply to moderator groups.

If a moderator is banned, the user shouldn't be in any moderator groups in the first place. The user should be demoted where banning will apply.
