Improved subscription
I'd like to use subscriptions as bookmarks
- switch off mail notification (by default)
- add descriptions
- read subscription feed by RSS or Atom
- rate topics by number of subscribers
I'm not a fan of FluxBB way anymore.

Re: Improved subscription
What is this doing in Feature requests?
What version do you want to do this in?

Re: Improved subscription
i think subscription is rare used feature. let's change it a little in modern manner:
no boring emails
let users to define theirs own annotations for each "bookmark"
read theirs own newsfeeds
and, finally, rate topics by user interests
ok?

Re: Improved subscription
I disagree. The subscription system is very useful, especially for forums where you don't visit as often. I'm subscribed to my release topics over at PunRes so I can provide support without having to check out PunRes every day. I think an RSS feed of subscribed topics would be cool and helpful to people, even if I don't personally use it. However, I also think that adding descriptions and rating topics by the number of subscribers they have is better for a modification.

Re: Improved subscription
So, if you'll accept it in general, I propose to add new profile page "Subscriptions" or "Favorites" where user see whole list and can remove some items. Also this page can contain RSS link.
And, of course, user should have ability to switch subs. mailing on/off in Privacy page.

Re: Improved subscription
The absence of forum subscriptions is a show-stopper for business use. Subscribing just to a topic is not adequate. I use this to assign my customer support agents to forums and then they are prompted to review posts immediately as they come in. This works much better than checking the boards periodically.

Re: Improved subscription
Wouldn't the RSS feed per forum take the place of subscriptions?

Re: Improved subscription
May be such syntax would good enough:
extern.php?action=subscr&user_id=123 (all subscriptions of user)
and
extern.php?action=subscr&user_id=123&fid=5 (subscriptions of user from one forum)
There is privacy issue here. If subscription feed fetches with Guest rights, potentionally not all topics can be shown.
I vote for v1.3's extern.php with authenticate option.
