FluxBB 1.4-beta1 released

Again, it took longer than expected because we're all very busy, but we've managed to get a beta release steamed up smile

The site has been updated to take account of this release. There are no more 'changed files' archives due to a new release script where this hasn't been added. If there are many requests for these, they might come back for future releases.

EDIT: Max's bug should be fixed now.

Re: FluxBB 1.4-beta1 released

Thanks for the report, I guess those last changes weren't tested.

Yann: I'll have a think over that, but as I explained I really don't have that much time on my hands.

Most of them should work. We tried to keep everything backwards compatible.

Nice!!!!!!!!!

I have three questions i want to ask.

1- So what is the main difference between Flux 1.3 and Flux 1.4 Except for extension system and SEF urls.
2- And of all these changes that were maded, are you devs are sure that all the 1.2 plugins, mods and styles will still work in 1.4.
3- And Will there ever gonno be a fluxbb mods and styles download place.

Thanks for you hard work guys, even though i dont like editing the files my self but this looks like classic release.

Re: FluxBB 1.4-beta1 released

Flux 1.4 is continued from Flux 1.2.21 So the plugins should work.

Re: FluxBB 1.4-beta1 released

Are there any improvements to the PostgreSQL layer?
In particular, the occasional deprecated backslash escaping method warnings?

Erm, we've never had a report about that AFAIK. Feel free to make a bug report though smile

Not entirely true.

A bug report with a patch would be nice though, since pg_escape_string is used throughout the system for escaping (which should be doing it properly). smile

Re: FluxBB 1.4-beta1 released

Thanks for remembering the post  Smartys.

I assumed it was some php method doing things wrong, which is further proof as far as i'm concerned that php blows.

More to the point, it seems that someone filed a bug report with php: http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=48238
Doesn't seem to be resolved yet, even though this is anything but new.

As stated before, everything works properly, and the warnings can be turned off.
However, pg docs warn that this might not be possible in the future and that this method of escaping is deprecated.

I'm sorry, i don't know/use php so i can't really help as far as a patch goes, however, i assume that other php projects use pg as db backend, and they might not have this issue (quick search shows that phpPgAdmin people fixed something related to that in version 4.2.1; the're at 4.2.2 now: http://phppgadmin.sourceforge.net/index.php). Perhaps having a look at how the're doing it might shed some light. That and asking on php mailinglists.

Re: FluxBB 1.4-beta1 released

Ugh. Reading that bug, the problem is not really possible to fix in a cross-platform way without rewriting the entire dblayer (and even then maybe not).

The problem is that pg_escape_string uses backslashes for escaping and PostgreSQL wants any strings escaped that way to use a special prefix. That's difficult/impossible to do in a cross-platform way. The solution is to switch to different functions that do the escaping the other way, but that involves rewriting the dblayer to use PDO or some such system. It also does not guarantee that the system won't suffer from the same flaws.

Re: FluxBB 1.4-beta1 released

I'm going to play with it. It doesn't seem all that different from 1.2 at first glance though, but knowing the backgroud, I can't say I expected any major changes though. Thanks for the release.
