Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008
I really don't see the need for them to check out every commit, they can but why? If FluxBB takes off development and popularity wise, then PunBB is dead. Sure they have the right to do so, but what good would the "new" PunBB be if its nothing but FluxBB with a different link at the bottom? I guess it remains to be seen if they ever plan on doing any coding.
I'm not trying to be negetive, I just don't see their point other than SEO reasons to rebrand FluxBB. I could rebrand phpBB as turdBB and put my links at the bottom but how many people would download it instead of the real deal?

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008
You should remember that the 1.3 core was orginally being developed for PunBB and we rather took them by surprise with our move. In the circumstances I would have thought it logical for PunBB to use the FluxBB core as a stopgap with the projects diverging in the near future.
The only thing worse than finding a bug is knowing I created it in the first place.

If they don't, it'll stagnate. They are a company, so I would assume they will want to recoup their costs, so I think it's safe to assume they will be doing some developing. Btw, this *really* is off-topic.

Nice. As the final beta, a stable version should follow next, no?
And with that, I thank thee.

We are pleased to announce that the next beta release, FluxBB 1.3 Beta3, will be released on June 1st 2008.
Still on track for the language file and markup lock for the end of the week?

A Release Candidate. It means that from the developer point of view, experience, feedback, everything is fine. No more bugs, no more glitches of any kind, no more “small hiccups”.
But because even an open beta doesn't involve a lot of people (less than a hundred for example), they know it's probably not ironclad yet. So they release this final product without calling it final. It allows a larger user base to install it, test it in real life scenarii and cases.
The bugs then discovered are corrected, and the process starts again until a RC has no more bad feedback coming up, at which point it becomes a final version.

thanks your definition was excellent , wikipedia definition was a little hard to understand. then using a software in RC is not a big risk i think. small errors can be fixed with the Trac. but i will start using from beta 3 as i cannot wait any longer for my new forum to run.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008
Beware that some RC still have major bugs, even if the developers adhere to the strict definition of what is a RC (some don't).
For example, the default Postgre package of the Fedora distribution could have some sort of incompatibility with FluxBB's Postgre layer that result in data corruption (I'm not saying that's the case or even that's possible, it's just an example). Betas could have shown absolutely no bugs in that regard, but there could be some serious issue with a whole part of its user base in RC for that reason.
If a product isn't finale (and some says, even after a finale you'll have to wait to see how it goes), it's not fit for production.

Code is code and bugs are bugs. Version makes no difference whatsoever.
