Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008
No ones negative towards punbb, shit I love punbb lol its quick and it loads on my psp smoothly (eeeuser.com)
Also the reason for the versioning coming up is for the fact of confusion, I mean the programming team of FluxBB did move to a complete new software and a new name, why not start from 1.0?
And lmao dont ever say we're negative about punbb -.-..thats disrespectful because if we didn't like it why would we be suggesting things in the first place ?

I agree. Should of ideally renumbered at the start.
Agreed.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008
It seems to me this should be a dialog, if you want PunBB and FluxBB to have different version numbers (PunBB can always just set the same number :)). Of course we are not interested in confusing users. But it seems to be logically correct to keep identical numbers while the cores are really identical and to split them as soon as cores will become different.
I suppose we'll have no any differences until 1.3 is released at least.
Yes, our core devteam is not 100% complete yet as we still do not have any special interest to alter the core. Extensions are enough for us now. And we do really mean FluxBB development team as a cool one, giving all respects to them.
And yes, we are talking about GPL. No competition, but free code sharing. We are just talking of two friendly brunches of the same code here. Anyway, the code belongs to the community and makes user's life better :)
PS: Offtopic: Russian FC Zenit has just taken UEFA Cup! Yeah! :)

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008
But creating extensions to work on PunBB and FluxBB is not possible as there are some changes in the core that stops this from being possible.

I see this causing more issues and drama than we need.

great news! really good to hear that you will freeze the markup so people can start editing the design a bit.

no offense to any of the good ideas presented but personally i don't think changing the version number has much effect. heck if you're going to change it, how about FluxBB X?

We could always go the Ubuntu route and call it Randy Rat or Pissed Porcupine.

In order for this release to be finished on time we have to put a brake on further feature requests. If there is anything you desperately wanted to see in FluxBB 1.3 you need to post a feature request within the next two days.
Hi. What about a private messaging system on FluxBB ? May be there's an extension ?

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008
So, if I get all this correctly it looks like FluxBB will be what PunBB used to be. And it will make 1.3 happen after all. Right?
That's good news.
I'm one of those frustrated souls who stopped developing extensions for 1.2x two years ago because they believed that 1.3 was just around the corner. Silly, eh?
So, thank you for taking this all in your hands.
I will be more than happy to rewrite my few mods for 1.3 once it's worthwhile doing it.
Freedom is just another word for people finding out you're useless.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008
How long was PunBB version 1.3 in development? Wasn't it lik 3 years? I got to the point that I started referring to it as "3" I love the idea of starting a new versioning number. 2.0 sounds great, but hey... why not 3.0 (to match the VERY long awaited 1.3)?
Either way, I say start some new numbering... I need to reduce as much confusion in my life as possible.

Time in development is not how the numbering system works.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008
To me is just sounds like the new PunBB owners never had and have no plans to do any coding. It sounds like all they want to do is take the code from FluxBB, tack on their link at the bottom and call it PunBB.
I know it's legal but doesn't sound right to me. Will they really sell addons to PunBB? And what if the FluxBB guys develop a similiar plugin that PunBB sells, then it would be worthless for them to sell it, because someone could get it for free? The PunBB domain is worthless now other than having some SEO rank, and a bunch of links until FluxBB takes off.

It's somewhat off topic, but similar doesn't mean same. If they are providing paid support for their system and plugins/mods, they will have a niche. You have to remember that no matter what the virtues of Open Source, the business sector especially can be terrible to convince of those virtues. Unless they have some department to phone/e-mail if/when something goes wrong, a lot of businesses won't use Open Source even if it's ten times better than their current software. It can be like trying to plait snuff with them on occasion.
