Ticket #232 (wontfix enhancement)
Use "markup" term instead of "BB-code" in the messages
- Created: 2010-12-30 13:46:38
- Reported by: Freeman
- Assigned to: JohnLewis
- Milestone: 2.0-alpha3
- Component: localization
- Priority: normal
Use common term "markup" (or "formatting") in the messages, instead of built-in "BB-code". For example, "Markup is on" ("Formatting is on") instead of "BB-code is on".
Forum mods could replace BB-code with any other formatting, like markdown or wiki. This modding should not require translation change, when possible.
FluxBB could also provide/require own formatting name, like "BB-code", "markdown", "wiki", which could be changed by mod developer.

Seems like a good viable idea. Once we start development on Alpha3, I'll get this done.

I have even bigger plans for this: I'd like the markup syntax to be definable on a post-by-post basis. Or at least user-by-user.
Core would still only have BBCode support, but this would make it really easy to add other markup formats with extensions.
And it would obviously make sense to have that "markup" term.
