FluxBB.org (style) update: we want your opinion

Hello everyone,

We, the developers, want to ask the communities opinion about some changes for this site.

First of all (and the most important one), we want to remove the features mentioned in the feature-box on the frontpage and replace them by some more relevant features of FluxBB. We want to know: what is the top 5 features that let you jump to FluxBB? Why are you here, wich features do you like really much about FluxBB?

Second, the header, we want to know your opinion about some new gradients, like this one. What do you guys think about it? If this will hapen, it's only in CSS3, so old browser won't see this.

And the last one, the footer. We should like to know what you guys think about the footer of this site. Tell us what you should do whit it. Remove links? Add links? Darker? Lighter? Just tell us.

Anyway, that's it. If you know something you want to see visual improved, ask for it here. If you want anything else, or find a bug, create a ticket in the FluxBB.org tracker.

Re: FluxBB.org (style) update: we want your opinion

I personally think header and footer are fine, but can't be bothered to argue strongly for or against changing things. smile

For front-page features, I would probably go with these:

  • Supports PHP 4 & PHP 5

  • Easy installation and setup

  • Open-source (GPL)

  • Clean admin interface

  • Flexible permission system

  • Lots of community modifications

Not sure about the last three, but hey, that's why we ask. smile

Uhm, is PHP4 and 5 support not something where you say: ofcourse it is?

Anyway, for the rest, I agree. And it's Open source without "-". wink

Re: FluxBB.org (style) update: we want your opinion

These days, it could certainly be expected that PHP 4 is not supported anymore (which we'll do with v2.0), so it is somewhat of a stand-out feature.

Regarding "open-source": I've seen both ways and this is what we have right now.

I don't know. I like it more than the old one, but I'm sure people can contribute ideas to make it better.

Yeah, I guess you can just go ahead for now and we can change it later. What is your opinion about my suggestion, by the way?

No need to add gradients. They are not suitable for FluxBB, and not a trend.

Re: FluxBB.org (style) update: we want your opinion

I must agree there - it doesn't really fit the rest of the design anyway, if you ask me.

Re: FluxBB.org (style) update: we want your opinion

Hi,

As I asked before are you able to make the design like xenforo.com/community ?

cause now a days everyone is going with HTML5 and CSS3 and it has a great effect on the users ...

and please that IMO none of free forum software support such a design so it will be a great advantage for fluxbb  if you work on it.

Regards.

Not everyone likes their design, rather I was walking in the direction of compliance-style smartphones and tablets.

PunBB has a default style in HTML5 and CSS3.

FluxBB should use Responsive-layout, or an additional mobile style.

PunBB has a default style in HTML5 and CSS3.

But we are not PunBB. Beside, styling has nothing to do with HTML5 anyway. In the future, FluxBB will start using HTML5 and CSS3 to, but for the 1.x-branch, that won't happen. Of course, you can also use CSS3 in styles for FluxBB 1.x. O, and of course, it's also possible to use CSS4, but that probably doesn't work since there are no browser that support this stable.*

You can't make a design that everyone likes, so, no point to this, it's no reason to change.

We, or actually John, are working on this for FluxBB 2.

Anyway, this topic is about FluxBB.org, not about FluxBB.

*Internet Explorer and Firefox support CSS4 for a little tiny part, unstable.

But we are not PunBB.

A. Chakery said that any free forum software use HTML5/CSS3. I denied.

Exactly that I mean by my post...

Oh, thanks, I did not notice, really... smile

PunBB has a default style in HTML5 and CSS3.

But that design is a way behind XenForo ... have you take a look at XenForo.com/community ?

I am talking about the whole layout and mixing of great Jquery codes ... I believe the current fluxbb design is so much better than PunBB !!!

I am a realistic guy and I know that FluxBB has a long way to achieve such a design that I am talking about ...

but I was just talking about the whole xenforo concept ...

Yeah, I am using XenForo on my community.

That's deny ideology of FluxBB. Less is more. Also let us stop be jealous for PunBB. It is a good forum software, a bit run down, but good. The design is perfect. And FluxBB should inspire it.
Ehh... Sorry for my English smile.

Re: FluxBB.org (style) update: we want your opinion

I like the subtle gradient on the grey bar, I'm not so convinced about the gradient/shadow around the blue box its a bit too distracting from the text and it has a bit of that "web 2.0 look" to it which is starting to feel a bit dated.

Re: FluxBB.org (style) update: we want your opinion

The default style is fine , I think the most necessary is not the style , why we choose FluxBB ?  The answer is : Quick , Clean , Safe .
