How to migrate from PunBB to FluxBB?

Hi all!

I have a forum witch is running PubBB (1.3.4) and I would like to migrate to Flux (dont know with witch version the process would be easier...).

Could you please help me out? I really dont know where to start...

I searched in the forum and I found some different solutions... Could u please tell me witch one is the correct and easier one?

Thank u very much in advance!

Jack

ps: I am using the "PUN PM" extension (private message) too, could i migrate that too?

Re: How to migrate from PunBB to FluxBB?

Hi Oscon

Switching from PunBB 1.3.4 is easy, you just have to follow these steps: http://fluxbb.org/docs/v1.4/upgrading#overwriting-files

I develop the PM mod for FluxBB 1.4.*: I would like to tell you that you will not loose any messages, but I do not know if the 1.3.* PUN PM have the same database shema than mine.

Please excuse my bad english, I'm french tongue.

Hi adaur,

thank u very much for the very fast reply! smile

I installed the last Flux version uploading it on the server. After the uploading of the old Pun's config.php, I launched the forum. I upgraded the old DB as requested (with backup, of course wink. And everything works fine (the old forum too!).

But there is a fatal error if I log in as administrator user. The fatal error appears only on the new forum (and it doesnt matter witch directory I use, the new one or the old one):

Warning: main(./lang//admin_common.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/vhosts/sitename.com/httpdocs/forum2/include/common_admin.php on line 22

Warning: main(./lang//admin_common.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/vhosts/sitename.com/httpdocs/forum2/include/common_admin.php on line 22

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required './lang//admin_common.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /var/www/vhosts/sitename.com/httpdocs/forum2/include/common_admin.php on line 22

I think due to the double slashes.... Do you maybe understand why they appear?

I develop the PM mod for FluxBB 1.4.*: I would like to tell you that you will not loose any messages, but I do not know if the 1.3.* PUN PM have the same database shema than mine.

I will check it, merci beaucoup!

smile

Re: How to migrate from PunBB to FluxBB?

hmmm... the problem seems to be related to the "italian language" package... if i set "ensligh" in the preferences all works fine....

Re: How to migrate from PunBB to FluxBB?

Yeah, the double slashes are there because there should be a language in between. Is it possible that your old default language (Italian, it seems) isn't installed on this new forum?

Nope... I installed that package too.

EDIT: Hmmm... OMG!! big_smile The file admin_common.php does not exist in the language pack. Comparing with the english version it is not normal at all wink. Maybe I downloaded an old version. Have u the link to the last one? (in the meantime I upload the english files for the admin section)

(as always: the problem is the silliest one! XD)

thanks,
J

Re: How to migrate from PunBB to FluxBB?

You can find the current translation efforts for Italian on GitHub: https://github.com/fluxbb/langs/tree/master/Italian

However, it looks like the admin panel hasn't been translated yet. I suggest you contact user pierluigi, as he's the one who started the Italian language pack.

Re: How to migrate from PunBB to FluxBB?

Thanks! I already downloaded it from there. I think I will complete the translation and contact pierluigi.

One last things (for other questions i'll open new threads)! wink

Now all works fine, but I still get this warning in some admin sections

Bad HTTP_REFERER. If you have moved these forums from one location to another or switched domains, you need to update the Base URL manually in the database (look for o_base_url in the config table) and then clear the cache by deleting all .php files in the /cache directory.

the base url (http://www.sitename.com/forum) and the cache (i deleted it) are ok... any clue?

Tchus und danke wieder mal! smile

I solved the problem. But it seems to be something like a little bug, i guess.

I use the Firefox Plugin named "RefControl", and I usually disable all the referer. With FluxBB if you do not send the referer you can't work in the administration area, change preferences, and so on...

It's not so much a bug as a bad design left over from PunBB 1.2 that we haven't got around to fixing yet.
