SQL queries - performance question

Just curious regarding a certain point. I know it's nigh on impossible to quantify a question like this with an exact answer, (or probably even something vaguely close big_smile), but how much does the number of queries executed matter, load wise? If you're running several quick and simple queries, (for example SELECT's or DELETE's from a single table), without joins or suchlike, does the number of queries have a notable affect on load etc, or is it the complexity, (or poor optimisation), of a query which causes more load?

Is there a lesser of two evils, so to speak? big_smile
