Partially Shared Database & Hidden Forums?

I hope this is the right forum to post these questions.

Is it possible to share only the user database between 2 forums on the same domain? I want one forum for only a certain use and kept clean and scrolling a mile through forum categories is not attractive. I then want the same users to be able to go to another part of the site (mysite.com/forum2 for example) and have a different forum, but same user login, signature, avatar, etc. Is this possible without too many changes to the core files?

My second question; is it possible to add a required field at the registration page to hide and show certain forums to users from different places?

I'm using the latest 1.2.x without any modifications.
