Well...
PHP5 is faster than PHP4.
PHP5 has more features.
PHP5 will get security updates, while PHP4 won't anymore. Same goes for bugfixes.
PHP5 will be further developed (PHP 5.3 is coming)
List can be continued.
PHP4 is dead.
And as far as I know, FluxBB 1.4 will be PHP5 only.

just a quick spanner in the works (apologies in advance) Just an idea.
It's all well & good creating conversion tools for other forums to FluxBB - but the majority are all php / MySQL based.. there are numerous forums out there running ASP / MS Access (such as Snitz, Web Wiz) & even Perl (e.g. Yabb, EBlah) that are going unaccounted for & so far as i can tell, nobody does a conversion. it may be a feather in FluxBB's cap to cater for these people - if only to attract a market share as more & more people are switching to php & MySQL.. that would be a lot of new users if a percentage switched to fluxBB because a conversion was simple.
I'm not a programmer or anything, so i wouldn't know where to begin - i only know the basics of php to enable me to edit existing pages etc & that is about it, but i'm sure a coding genius would be able to create a conversion if the original database was uploaded to a php server where Flux is to be installed & then a conversion tool "opens" the cross format database to convert it to an SQL file that can be imported onto a new installation.
What's the story on convertors from punBB / Flux 1.2 to newer versions? are they still going to be supported or will conversion tools be required there? One of my concerns is I use coppermine bridged on one of my site's forums & i'm curious to know how that would be affected should i update to 1.3 or again to 1.4 or 2.0

There shouldn't be a problem to write a converter from an MSSQL database to a MySQL database, as long as the PHP installation supports it.
