that article said that it will be the last time they need to upgrade manually. i mean they have built in upgrader or some thing like that.

along with other things, that fluxbb need. developers might learn few stuff from it for the next big release like 1.4.

and guys what do u think about the new version of wordpress, any one tried it. i dont want to upgrade now because there are not enough plugins of 2.7 that i realy need for my site.

FluxBB is not meant to have loads of features in though, hence the light weight and speedy forum.

I've upgraded two of my sites so far and have been using the beta's and RC's for awhile. I haven't had any plugin issues with the new version, but I'm probably not running all the same plugins as well.

what about styles, are the old styles compatible with the new version. the most important plugin i need is that post tabs (http://pirex.com.br/wordpress-plugins/post-tabs). all my site is build on it.

set up a test installation of wordpress and test your plugins there first. Most will work, but there are a few that cause headaches.

I'm using WP2.7 and i have yet to have any problems with it. From what iv read there arnt any BIG changes that will stop plugins or themes from working.

Haven't test, but should upgrade mine sometime this week, how is with the themes? is there a compatibility mode or something? I have a custom theme that I would like to keep.
I checked out the new stuff, sure there's a lot of improvements that no doubt will result in better usage and ultimately better productivity. But I don't like the way they are taking, Keeping it Simple is clearly not a priority for them and I don't like that. The panel comes with too much javascript stuff that often causes more troubles than it helps. I prefer a simple clean HTML interface, not only is more compatible it also lets me know exactly what I am doing.
Critics apart, I find this release impressive.

Maybe it's time for more blogging software to pop up, since WP is taking the road to complexity(hopefully not clutter nor bloat) it would be cool if simpler alternatives show up.

What's driving Wordpress is the commercial side, the .com. The Open Source side, the .org, is benefiting nicely from it. They claim to have over 150 contributors on the 2.7 release, that's impressive, and the management deserves some kudos also.

There are alternatives, but it's hard to be heard above the Drupal, Joomla! and WordPress noise. A PHP script is a PHP script, it's the marketing and the number of followers that determines if anyone will even bother checking your project out. Keep in mind that some alternatives don't like the glow of the spotlight and shy away from growth.

There are alternatives, you just have to offer them your support, if you happen to use their code.
