May be bigger smiles and (hover over smiles) text
1- the current smiles are little small and old type, it can always be bitter. i know it can be changed by extension, but it no harm of having bitter smiles in core ![]()
2- currently as far as it shows in my browser, there is no hover text in when the mouse is on smiles. some users doesn't really understand the smiles very well, so isn't it would be bitter if there is hover over smiles which say the meaning of that smiles. may be like yahoo messenger smiles.
its not very important, so no biggy (or whatever americans say in moves
)

1. No thanks, big smilies look horrible. If you want different ones then you can change them yourself easily enough by just replacing the image files.
2. How can't someone understand a smiley face? ![]()

Only on IE. It's alt is set, though only IE displays that on hover.

Only way to fix that would be to add a title attribute to a <a> tag placement around the smilie... I believe...

Picture someone doing that face ... it's not hard. You can also take into account the context of the previous sentence, that often helps. If all else fails, learn what they actually mean (look at the file names).

Bigger smiles hurt the line spacing, so personally I like having small smiles by default. But I suppose that eventually someone will make some kind of extension to customize smiles ![]()

So do I.
I can't stand forum where half the smiley list will blow your text paragraphs away.
