Re: What should be core?

Indeed. Anti-spam is one area where having a variety of options is necessary, since there is no solution that will work effectively for every forum.

Re: What should be core?

A good reason not to add anti-spam features to the core is if they are core they are more likely to be targeted and broken.

But another reason I wouldn't want to see Captcha or other anti-spam features in core is because there are a variety of ways of dealing with this and that what makes anti-spam much better as extensions.

Yes, I totally agree. Features that can evolve better outside the core, should be fought over by everyone. That's when you get best of breed plugins, modules, extensions or (pick your name) widget mechanism.

All throughout this thread both I and Jérémie have referenced Textpattern, and it's a close comparison to Flux in terms of project methodolgy. There is a core feature in Textpattern that I would like to see taken out of the core, and it's comments. The comments in Textpattern are an afterthought that the core devs would rather not deal with cause it works fine for them.

Competition is good.

It's also the best way of putting code under real life tests, and make it better with that experience.

PS: I'm just commenting on that argument alone, I don't think anti spam should be core for reasons already pointed out by others, although a good anti spam extension should be made official imo.

So the answer is not "Anti-spam should not be a core feature", but "Anti-spam must be a core feature, but it can't".
OK, consequence is the same (anti-spam as extension), but I prefer this answer big_smile

If tomorrow you'll find the "ultimate, unbreakable anti-spam function", don't you think you'll add it as a core feature ? wink

Re: What should be core?

If it's light, accessible and absolutely unbeatable (hah), probably.

This discussion started over here.

And it continues here, what some feel should be added to core are:

  • Split and merging capabilities for topics and posts.

100% agree!
Split and merging capabilities for topics and posts.
and PM also .

Its funny, If the big forum like FluxBB doesn't have those one smile
Thats why, my previous PunBB have 40 moderators!
Can you imagine that? Only their job are to replace non-existing "Split and merging capabilities for topics and posts" feature

Re: What should be core?

Split and Merging is core,
PM won't be core, but an official extension.
