Re: Markup Progress Report
I think the sooner we get a topic splitting extension the better.
If you feel the need for it, on the tiny, very respectful, very calm, FluxBB forum, maybe this should be core, mmmmh?

ROFL: tiny maybe, but certainly not the rest ![]()
Your post, for example, is a wonderful lead-in to an off-topic tangent. ![]()
In any case, I'm afraid it's a bit late in the process for a new feature to be developed and put into place for 1.3. And even if it wasn't, while I personally find splitting and merging to be very useful features for more heavily moderated discussion boards, many boards would have no need for them. Having something as an extension is not a bad thing, it's about giving the administrator a choice of what tools to use.

Split/merge posts and I would add unread posts tracking, that's it, cover up the core and the rest could be extensions.

As could both of those be. There's no need for those to be core. Plus, personally, I wouldn't want the type of post tracking you mean to be part of core. That's hardly what you could class as lean and mean.

Once people start adding extensions left and right, lean and mean will be used less often in these here circles. I'm not implying that things will slow down on your forum as you add widgets, but a different mentality will take hold, one desiring more.

Re: Markup Progress Report
Everyone has their own ideas about which features are important, extensions let you choose exactly the features you want, and no more, which will make each forum as "lean" as possible.

Nice side discussion everyone, but if we want to take it further, someone needs to start a new topic ![]()

This is a shiny piece of the web, most of the others places are much, much darker.

Re: Markup Progress Report
I go to css play a lot, and like what Stu does - but even he admits they are not always suitable for accessibility.

Re: Markup Progress Report
Those menus are pretty but there is an immediate problem accessibility wise in that navigating using the tab key doesn't activate the sub menu though it would be interesting to see if that could be fixed.
The only thing worse than finding a bug is knowing I created it in the first place.

Re: Markup Progress Report
I was thinking about it but these kind of menus only allow 1 sub-menu.
If in the future one of the sub-menu would have another sub-menu that would turn out preaty bad i guess.
So probably not a good solution.
First i liked it a lot but now when i thought about it again that could be too big problem in the future.

actually... that isn't necessarily a problem.
Tabbing through a menu where you only tab through top level links isn't a problem. (providing the linked page then lists the sub menu of course)
Tabbing through a menu where you only see top level links, but have to tab through all the sub menu links you can't see is a problem.

Re: Markup Progress Report
Paul,
When would you like us to post bugs/thoughts on the new markup?
It's looking good, just have some questions.
