Creation of Forums

I just wanted to ask why it is you guys never made it so that while I am creating the Forum name that there isn't a box below where I can enter the forum description as well. I don't get it why I have to go back in and edit the forum name in order to enter a description.

Re: Creation of Forums

The form is supposed to be simple. Therefore, it accepts a minimal amount of information: the name of the forum, the category it should go in, and the position.

Re: Creation of Forums

The description of a forum is important, though, I hate having to go back and edit all the forums later

Same here. I just think it makes no sense. I am all for simplicity but the 2 just go hand in hand in my opinion. It is simpler to have both options there and rather an inconvenience having to go back a second time to edit the description.

Re: Creation of Forums

I kept asking Rickard to use the same form (minus the permissions) for creating and editing forums. I can't remember why we never did it though.

Re: Creation of Forums

I have to agree with shedrock, it would be very nice to be able to set the description on creation.

Re: Creation of Forums

Yup....

And to keep it simple is a matter of appearance: the big forum name, the smaller category, the smallest description tagged as optional.

Re: Creation of Forums

I think the description is better suited to be displayed there than the position.

Re: Creation of Forums

Yes, I agree. It makes sense to me to have the description field in the creation form.

I agree, adding this seems common-sense.

Re: Creation of Forums

if the devs add it, then someone might want the sort order there also, or the redirect url. i suggest leave it the way it is or maybe change it to how the group section works.

Select the category you want to add a new forum to, it will redirect you to a form to fill out with ALL information, (it would look exactly the way the edit forum looks.) then hit submit and add the forum.

I like that idea.

I like that idea.

Or you could have two links on the submenu "Manage forums" and "Create forums". You then use the same form for both which will either be in edit mode or append mode depending on how you arrived at the form. If its in append mode when you add a forum you are redirected back to the same form following submit so you can create another. If its in edit mode you get redirected back to the manage forums page. I have no idea how complicated that would be to code though.

Re: Creation of Forums

But perhaps this can wait until after 1.3? Adding non-essential functions (although I agree this one is important) just keeps pushing back the first release, which isn't really a good thing IMO.

I think you just contradicted yourself, there.

Maybe I should have explained further what I meant: it's an important feature, but not an essential one. If I understood how development is going, extension devs can't really start working until 1.3 is final or close enough to final. Postponing the date because of this feature just doesn't sound good... It can as well be added a little bit later, in some 1.3.x version (unless a dev can add it easily without generating a delay before the final release, of course smile).
