Videos or screenshot tour?
I was going to start remaking my tut videos and thought I'd ask first.
What would best served, screenshots or videos? Can videos be embedded in the wiki?

Re: Videos or screenshot tour?
HD 720p videos.
That's a bit over the top. Not to mention you'd waste alot of the server's and the user's bandwidth. Regular videos are more than enough.

We need videos.
I like the interactive one. It is more useful and interesting.

Re: Videos or screenshot tour?
Personally I'd go for screenshots, allows the user to follow at their own pace, maybe a video that quickly introduces the basics and screenshots for more indepth instructions?

Another vote for screenshots.

Re: Videos or screenshot tour?
I think I'm leaning more on screenshots since I can focus on different parts of the screen without making a video too big. Plus I'd imagine it would make it easier to put in the wiki.

Re: Videos or screenshot tour?
Once you have your collection of screenshots they can also be used for .pdf files, .hlp files or any other format of tutuorial.

No one says that we have to upload videos to the server of FluxBB.org. We can upload it to Vimeo.

Re: Videos or screenshot tour?
Even for downloading, I would much rather have screenshots or a small video than a 720p video. There's no need for HD at all, it would just be a waste of users bandwidth downloading it.

Re: Videos or screenshot tour?
If I were to do videos they would end up being embedded flash conversions. The program I used last time did a great job with keeping the quality I wanted while maintaining a small file size. The file size only got over 2 megs on 2 videos if I recall, and the res was 1024x768 with all on screen text readable.

Re: Videos or screenshot tour?
Is a slight but unobtrusive pixelation worth wasting the user's bandwidth?

Re: Videos or screenshot tour?
Both, but if hosted on a video site, mostly the end user.

Ah. Well I'm just going to do screenshots and then make a wiki page for them so I guess the point is moot. ![]()
