Scheduled downtime
Just a quick heads up there will be some brief downtime at some point this weekend while I migrate fluxbb.org to a new VPS. During this time I will place the forums in to maintenance mode.
Our new VPS is still hosted by Gandi, though will now run Arch Linux opposed to Ubuntu.

Re: Scheduled downtime
Quit Ubuntu server is rather a right decision.
But (I'm asking out of curiosity), why you choose Archlinux for server? Personally, I love Archlinux and I use it in all of my workstations. But Archlinux upgrade is a pain... something not compatible with server need for stability. Why not Debian? (for example).

Re: Scheduled downtime
Jamie originally planned Archlinux because it has rolling release where as Ubuntu needs to be manually updated.

Re: Scheduled downtime
Yes, it is a rolling release, it has the latest kernel, bleeding edge software, but many applications may break after an upgrade ...
I suppose you would have read these topics:

Good luck!

Re: Scheduled downtime
While I wouldn't use arch in a production environment that requires 100% uptime, that isn't vital for fluxbb.org, and I would much rather (and find it easier to find time to) deal with odd small issues during a rolling upgrade than big issues when upgrading major releases.

Re: Scheduled downtime
Shouldn't be unless they were done after I put the old one in to maintenance mode, in which case tough you'll have to do them again
needed to stop and move the database at some point in time...
