Groups on FluxBB
On PunBB you can only have a member join one group at a time, does FluxBB fix this or not?
It's really annoying, our site is fully intergrated into PunBB atm. So it would be hard for us to change to FluxBB unless the site was rewritten, but there are several groups on the forums.

Re: Groups on FluxBB
I wouldn't use the word fix since it isn't a bug. Though no, on FluxBB you can only be in 1 group at a time.

Re: Groups on FluxBB
Ah alright then.
Would it not be possible to have the ability to join more than one group added in in the future?

As a modification, yes. In fact, it's already possible. ![]()

Re: Groups on FluxBB
Why? It already works without a modification like Smartys said.

On my 1.4.4 I can only choose one group for each member ... and Smartys said
As a modification, yes.
But I cant find any modification for that.

Even if he said it, i can't find this option, too. At the beginning i have to say that i missunderstood you.
Now i know what you want (after i try to find the option by myself).
Personally I've created a group based on another.

No. When you start to allow multiple groups you get issues on conflicting permissions, among other problems - it wouldn't be a trivial addition so doesn't suit 1.4.
This could be considered for 2.0, but I'm not sure if it is worth it - it isn't something often needed, and having a single group is much simpler to handle.

Re: Groups on FluxBB

Good idea but think it doesnt work for me ... let me explain a little bit more:
A is a member of group 1, B is a member of group 2. Now I want so create an additional group 3 for showing the members of this group an additional (closed) forum. Members of group 3 are only some single members of group 1 and 2. But the members who are primarily a member of group 1 should not get the permissions of group 2 and vice versa.
So I cant use your advice

Re: Groups on FluxBB
I can't see a real problem. Instead of creating one group 3, you simply have to create another group 4.
Members of the third group can see all the stuff from group 1. Members of the fourth can see everything from group 2.
And both (group 3 and 4) can see the additional (closed) forum. Done.
Hope you know what I mean.

i don't see any point to multiple groups. just because it doesn't suit a few, isn't justification enough.
Sorry for my poor English, I'm English.

Re: Groups on FluxBB
I have the same "problem" as you. Normal Users and some Moderators shouldn't see an hidden area. First they need a certain permission. Once they have, there status will be "unlocked" that they can see the special forum.
Sure it would be easier to add just another group to an user, but once you created the extra group it's as easy as the other way.
In that case its also possible to see all the rights clearly. Let's imagine one user is in 10 groups. In that case it could be really confusing for you to know what he is (not) allowed to see. And, if you're unsure, you have to take a look at every single group and there permissions instead of one.
The more i write the more i dislike the idea of multi-groups. ![]()

Re: Groups on FluxBB
I am not yet migrated to 1.4.x because our installations are so heavily modded;
but coming across this post I was wondering... is the multigroup mod developed for 1.2 not viable for massaging into 1.4.x ?
Link here: http://www.punres.org/viewtopic.php?id=150
I have had this deployed for a long time now without a single complaint (no permissions issues, etc).
Cheers ;^)

Wouldn't a 5th group need to be created for people that need see group 1, group 2, and the hidden forum?
