Just wondering. Which browsers, (i.e: how far back), would the following work with, roughly?

input[type="text"] {...}

Is it better, (for compatibility), to apply classes to input fields rather than using the above method?

For future reference, this is a handy site to use for checking things like that. To answer your question, basically what Smartys said, it works in everything other than IE6 (and earlier IE versions).
