Disabling URLs in signatures and posts for users - Spam Problem
I've been hit by some human spam lately, they come in waves of about two, and post three or so posts containing a spam signature and post. I figured that the best solution would be to disable url usage in signatures and posts for users under five posts, how would this be achieved?
What other methods could I use to avoid human spam?

* e-mail confirmation of the new account
* Edit the blocked-wordlist
* disallow signatures at all is a good thing, it only wastes screen space

Thanks, I added email confirmation - what do you suggest adding to the wordlist. Where is the wordlist, haha?

Re: Disabling URLs in signatures and posts for users - Spam Problem
You might also want to look into the BB Spam Fighter mod to help you do some of the stuff you want, esp restricting ability to post URL's for users under xx number of posts etc:
Based on the Forbidden word spam blocker mod by Daniel
## Vijge (vijge@dse.nl). This mod adds extra options for
## administrators in controlling spam.
##
## As with the Forbidden word spam blocker mod, this mod
## restricts posting of certain words and phrases, but
## improves this by:
## - Performing a spam check only on posts by users in
## certain groups, as well as:
## - If the user has less than # posts
## - If the user is registered for less than # days
## - Restrict the max # of URLs posted in a message for these
## users
## - Restrict the max # of characters in a message for these
## users
##
## If the message is detected as spam, a warning is then
## displayed telling the user the word or phrase to remove,
## to reduce the # of URLs, and/or to reduce the # of
## characters in the message.

I was looking at that exact mod, but I'm not sure exactly how the implementation of it works (no demo, etc.). Like, does it disallow urls from both posts and signatures under a certain threshhold? Does it show a message about why the urls didn't work?

The Akismet mod works for me, it captures bots and most live persons copy/pasting their garbage into 100's of forums.
