Remove and keep .Net off of Windows XP
Just an FYI post,
Today, Windows Update asked me to install .Net 3.5 sp1, I said ok. I fired up Firefox after the reboot and it told me that an extension was installed, it was for .Net. Apparently, Microsoft in it's infinite wisdom wants to screw up my safe browsing experience and allow websites to peer into my installed software and install their own shit if they so desire.
I shut down all my apps and went about uninstalling .Net 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5. Rebooted, but Windows Update downloaded .Net 2.0 before I had a chance to change some settings, I allow it to download but it asks me if it should install the updates. Google to the rescue and I configured things so that .Net doesn't appear again.

.Net or as I affectionately call it .Not will never get back on my XP system, how dare they mess with my Firefox!

Wow, I was not aware of this. Thanks! Cheeky buggers not asking if they can install a ff extension and shame on ff for allowing it to go ahead silently aswell.
I need .net though so I`ll be disabling the plugin instead.

Yes, but what if an update from Microsoft re-enables it without my knowledge?
Firefox does inform you if an extension has been updated but I don't think it says anything if it enables itself. Even if disabling it would of worked, I just felt uneasy with it, so it's gone.
