The new style

Well, I have one main gripe with it for the moment, and that's that stickies don't stand out enough. I suggest perhaps indenting the title a bit, or perhaps even another colour for the status icon.

Same thing with closed topics. Not that they need to "stand out" so much as I should be able to easily identify them. Having the difference be bold text underneath the subject makes it very hard to notice.

Stickied, this is the official topic for discussing the aesthetics of the new style. All others will be closed.

Re: The new style

Can the FORUM_DEBUG stuff be put in the footer underneath Powered by? If not, I think it needs to be centered and in a smaller font.

Re: The new style

When I'm writing a message (using FF3), the text from text fields are much smaller than the text on the rest of the pages.

The idea is to make the topic title as uncluttered as possible. I figured their were plenty of other ways to make sticky and closed topics stand out visually either by a different colour for the row or a bright status indicator (maybe green or orange). In fact, doing that it would be possible to hide the sticky label alltogether.

NB: Text size. Will be fixed in about 2 minutes. Done r506 - site updated.

Re: The new style

I like the new style. (Even the profile menu looks fine now!)

I'm also using FF3 on WinXP and here the fontsize seems to be large enough.

One thing that was already mentioned is that stickies and closed topics don't visually separate from the other topics. This might be solved with an appropriate topic logo, but I would prefer to have the bold "closed:" in front of the title.

Another thing is, that "Sticky: Closed: Started...." looks a bit odd.

The topic rectangles don't vertically align with the topic title in FF3.

Re: The new style

I like the new colors a lot. In the profile, the signature previews (both on the front page and on the signature page) don't have line breaks in them...

Re: The new style

Ok, my observations:

  • I liked the 90% forum width we had before.

  • Settings - Censoring, doesn't have a heading like Registration : New registrations.

  • Management - Reports appears to have an extra horizontal line: <h2 class="hn">

  • Rebuild index - Should this be in a block? Rebuild search index to restore search performance

Maybe the old CSS is used (from your cache). Try emptying your cache or doing a hard refresh.

Damn. It works fine now! I'm now using the bad 3.5G connection in Seoul, South Korea. o.0

I will go back to Taipei tomorrow, and I will be able to experience this new style more and more.

I'd advice to wait until Beta 3 is officially done.

Re: The new style

Ok. There are some things I noticed during a quick glimpse I could take right now:

- The announcement box needs a top margin  or something like that
- The hover colour of the moderator assignment boxes is _disgusting_
- In the profile introduction a little more markup for the field labels (like "Posts" or "Last Post") would be nice
- Signature in profile and signature control panel got no line feeds (was noted before, I think...)
- The buttons below the "Edit reply" form say "Submit reply" and "Preview reply"...maybe "Submit changes" and "Preview changes" would be more suited

Everything else looks awesome so far. Great job!

Re: The new style

Why do you use parentheses around the new posts link on the index page, but brackets on the topic list view?

The short answer is no because vertical alignment doesn't work with tableless designs. The long answer is they can be moved down to look as if they are middle aligned but they won't remain centered if the text wraps onto three lines instead of two.

Re: The new style

Breadcrumb:

I liked much more the small arrow, instead of the ending double quotes ».
There's also a small issue with it: » is ” in French, it's a little troubling to have it used this way if Flux is used with French translation. If » sticks as “breadcrumb arrow”, would it be possible to have it localized, so we can adapt it?

Fields *:

In post writing and in Quick post:

IMPORTANT! Fields marked * must be completed.

This is a little strange... in Quick Post it's the only field, and in Write post it's the only major (text) field. Is this indication really necessary?

Jeremie: Haven't decided what to do about required fields yet, its something I'm still reviewing. The current setup is temporary.

The breadcrumb seperator is in the langauge file.

I think making the links for closed topics grey would work quite nicely, not sure about stickies though.
