Re: Official Extensions
Wasn't there a discussion about subforums sometime ago. Didn't Rickard introduce somebody who had come up with a way of coding an infinite depth of subforums without any appreciable increase in overhead.
And is this my challegne for 2008, design the worlds first portal that isn't butt ugly, confusing and inflated.
The only thing worse than finding a bug is knowing I created it in the first place.

Re: Official Extensions
Yeh, there was, I don't remember that discussion ever ending though, and tbh I didn't want to introduce it now when we're getting close to a release.

Yup, and he got busy and couldn't do it. I know approximately what he was going to do though, so it shouldn't be too hard. We just don't need it in the core.

Re: Official Extensions
An unlimited depth of forums and categories can be quite useful. And having it in the core would ensure better compatibility with other extenstion, and ease of use by newcomers.
In my humble opinion, it's not a fancy feature or a narrow one, it's quite standard. You don't need it for every forum out there, but it's nice not to have to think about it... you need it, you can have it. Much more simple.

Re: Official Extensions
By that logic though, you can justify adding just about any feature that expands on an existing feature.
The code for it is non-trivial and it would complicate the way we currently display forums and categories. It is much better suited to an extension.

Re: Official Extensions
I think we leave it out of core for now, since to do it properly is a pretty huge change, whereas to add it with an extension is pretty easy. Its definitely something to think about for after 1.3 though.

Re: Official Extensions
IMHO, a plugin should be available for showing the latest replied topic name, poster and date/time on the forum index. Personally a date/time doesn't really describe a topic when I scroll the forums.

Re: Official Extensions
whats the difference between File Upload and Attachements?
Can I also make sure its clear, just because and extension isn't on this list doesn't mean someone won't make it.

Indeed. If you're suggesting something to add to this list, please try to justify why it should be an official extension rather than a regular extension (and not just "because I use it!" please
)

I would prefer the portal to be an official extension. Plus I think the released portal is bloated if you ask me.
