Topic: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008

We are pleased to announce that the next beta release, FluxBB 1.3 Beta3, will be released on June 1st 2008. This will be the final beta release of FluxBB 1.3.

The importance of this release is that features will be frozen from that date as will the markup. All users are encouraged to test it as thoroughly as possible with a view to ironing out all remaining bugs in preparation for release of FluxBB RC1.

In order for this release to be finished on time we have to put a brake on further feature requests. If there is anything you desperately wanted to see in FluxBB 1.3 you need to post a feature request within the next two days.

The Dev Team.

Addendum: We (isn't collective responsibility wonderful) were a little over ambitious with the release date and failed to leave wiggle room for things going wrong. Hence Beta3 will be a few days late.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008

I am currently using a two week old revision of PunBB 1.3 - can I "upgrade" to beta3 Fluxbb directly?

Good to hear that, present for children's day smile

Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday, and all is well. smile

So will there be only one default style of FluxBB?

So will there be only one default style of FluxBB?

No, he said the colors will vary by Final release, like the old PunBB did.

Will you have something in place when this final Beta is released for extension testing? In the sense of authorising extensions.

Yes, that's the idea.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008

The new Pun owners finally got around to responding to the announcement of Flux, yet they still haven't said anything about their roadmap for 1.3. How much of their...

We reckon on fruitful cooperation with FluxBB community in further development of the core functionality so that to provide growth and compatibility of extensions by means of sharing the code.

...is true? Are you guys (the Flux team) really sharing or do they just plan to use the GPL to "share" your code after you release it in June?

Also, has any consideration been given to renumbering Pun's 1.3 fork to Flux 1.0? Might help prevent future confusion as the two different code bases become increasingly dissimilar.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008

Chris - Thanks for saying what I was thinking. Anatoly's responses in the thread here gave me concern about their intentions to "keep up" with FluxBB's core code development.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008

Chris: We're planning a team response. However, the sharing would likely consist mostly of the latter, not the former.
And the renumbering is an interesting idea. smile

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008

yeah I think Flux 1.3 is pretty retarded if you've now fully moved from pun to FluxBB (two seperate companies as of now) and two different styles of code.  In my years of coding, when you do a major/complete change you change the first version number.  In this case punbb and fluxbb is insimilar to an extent.  So why not go with 1.0 Final instead of 1.3, in the future this will kill versioning and confusing as Chris said.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008

Since there is already much discussion about 1.3 beta, you may even want to go to 2.0.  If you go with 1.0 and then in the future you go to 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc.  you can see the confusion that may arise at that time.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008

Yes, potentially there could be two v1.2.18 in existence which were actually a generation apart. I think 2.0 rather than 1.0.

The only thing worse than finding a bug is knowing I created it in the first place.

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008

True, I hope theres a new start off number since 1.3 is meh...

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008

At this point, there is so much talk about 1.3, that changing it to 2.0 would confuse a lot of people.

I agree. Should of ideally renumbered at the start. tongue

Re: FluxBB 1.3 Beta3 - June 1st 2008

Everybody is too negative about punbb.informer.com, like, now people is suggesting changing the version number just to differenciate from punbb. I think the usage of the 1.2, 1.3 numbering is natural and there are no reason to change that.
Eventually the in the future 2.0 can be used instead of 1.4, but going for 2.0 at this time is just an unnecessary mess IMHO.

So, informer found themselves without the valuable devteam, I guess they assumed the devteam would work in a way that would be convenient to them, but things turned out not to be quite like that. But how is that this community's concern? Why trying to push them away as most as possible?
As long as this project keeps its own route, they might even checkout every single commit and save it to their repository if they don't violate the license. Does that bother you? It doesn't bother me, at all, if should be honest.
