Topic: On how good and how bad things are (with Fluxbb)

Don't know why I'm posting this...When I first saw it, I liked it very much, because of its speed, simplicity, great design (I'm a graphic designer, and I like it because it's a very simple, workable thing with easily editable css's unlike those heavy monsters).

Unfortunately, the forum is still a complete mess, as of now, and God only knows when it will be ready. To be ready it needs at least the following features:

1) Private messages
2) File attachments in Quick Reply
3) Quick Quote (through JS) instead of other quotes
4) Removing bugs in Opera and FireFox (forms and menus in wrong places or unreadible)
5) View-my-posts feature (Instead of Unanswered topics -- if topics were answered right away, then they were not worth it)
6) Localizations
....

to name just a few.

So I need support. Comfort me while I'm crying, it's still a long way to go.

I don't know what you mean by 5, but 1, 2 and 3 would be extensions, 4 is being worked on, and 6 will happen once the language files are fixed, its not a "complete mess" and I don't see the point of your post.

5) is accessible from your profile. i.e. my posts are here http://fluxbb.org/forums/search/posts/user/168/

I totally disagree. It is ready right now and it's clearly not a mess.  If you know PHP you can make it do anything extra you want.  I do.  Stop bitching and do some coding.

Some are not fortunate enough to be PHP dragons. Perhaps that is the case with Amelotti.

Still though, I completely disagree with the "complete mess" statement. Flux is already my board of choice, installing an extension or two won't kill anyone.

I know some PHP but I myself am no "PHP dragon" either. This however doesn't give me the right to expect things to be handed to me. I myself would of course request what I couldn't make and if I feel it will not benefit others as well I would pay me work to be done for me.

Basically what im trying to say is if you can't do it yourself you shouldn't be expecting it to be handed to you from others just because they do.

Oh and for your second part I do agree with you. I believe that FluxBB is the best board available currently. This is my own opinion though.

Amelotti, how dare you have said FluxBB is a mess?

Before January 24th, you'll see why FluxBB 1.2 won't be like "FluxBB 1.2."

Re: On how good and how bad things are (with Fluxbb)

All those features are either included or possible (if they don't exist already) to be implemented as an extension.

I think this is worth to stress:
Fluxbb extensions work without changing one single line of code of the core. Furthermore, they are persistent across updates.
That being said, I would say that is the most tidy forum software I know of (I also know the source code in some extent, it's pretty clean and awesome ) rather than 'a mess'.

If you are looking for a software with many features out of the box, well, then fluxbb is not what you're looking for.

Re: On how good and how bad things are (with Fluxbb)

It's unusable right now, and I need it in a week (or 4). I don't know PHP, I'm a graphic designer.
The point is that I'm bitchin', yeah.

View-my-posts is the feature where you see only the threads where you posted and whether they have any new messages.

Re: On how good and how bad things are (with Fluxbb)

1) Will be an official extensions for this, which is almost finished - though being forced to use email rather than PM in the mean-time is hardly the end of the world.
2) Will be an official extension for this too, but again needing to use 3rd party upload sites is not that bad, and actually most sites/forums don't have attachments by default.
3) Might be an extension for it, but I don't see how using the existing quote button is "unusable".
4) The markup is currently being revised.
5) http://fluxbb.org/forums/search/topics/user/2229/ & http://fluxbb.org/forums/search/posts/user/2229/ - both can be found in your profile page.
6) Can be done using language packs, which will be made once we reach feature freeze.

I hardly see how any of this makes it unusable. The odd overlapping thing in the markup is annoying for sure, but as I said that's what is currently being worked on. Lack of language packs could potentially make it unusable if your audience is non-English, but you can't really expect us to work on things like that until it is in feature freeze. Making changes in 1 language pack while developing is fine, needing to make it in 20 languages you don't speak as well would just be stupid.

Ah, ok, you've managed to prove you point, but I'm still working on installing ISP right now. It's still more competitive, as of now.
