The mod was working fine for over a year since publication, but recently (specifically, early January) I saw explosion of spam registrations (which were mostly absent before). I suspected DB hack, and changed password, but that didn’t help. So, temporarily I suspended registrations and even postings.

Could they target the mod itself and read answers off of sas.php? But then again, it should be protected and give them 403 code, innit? Since I used arithmetical questions, did bots use calculator? Did anyone else using this experience any significant issues like that?

I wan’t talking about guests, I was talking about bots, non-human user-agents. Is there fundamental way to tell human and non-human agents apart? Like having certain plug-in or JS on?

I’ve seen it, I’ll add it later. I just updated the forum and remodded it, now I’m working on Drupal portion of it, then I’ll get back to it and tinker with post.php. Many thanks though. smile Now that 1.4 shall be stable for a while it seems, this mod has its life extended.

P. S. Moderators, you can delete last two off-topics in a little bit. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hmm, I didn’t even know that Textpattern endured such fate. I really liked it and considered it for my blog before settling for WP. TP has (had?) a lot of good ideas behind it.

Topic view counters seem to include a lot of non-human user agents. I have really low traffic website (only up to 20-30 visitors a week with most of them ommiting forum), but counters on some topics are up to 3,500 views in less than two years (I only have 14 users, 20 topics and 69 posts smile). Seems like it counts all the search engine crawlers as well as spam-bots. Is it hard to fix, or can it be added to 1.4?

We execute when we can and see what happens, that's all there is to it. This is not some company where you can set real deadlines (as proven) nor force people to work on it.

To that I say, set more realistic deadlines. At least, for project phases or particular tickets. It’s not even question of “pleasing the customer”, sometimes one can set his colleagues back, members of the same team. For example, you fail to uphold some deadline, and other developer who depended on completion of that portion of the project and had set aside time for work postponing a holiday trip shall now beat about the bush with nothing to do. As an abstract example, I reiterate.

While I understand that 1.4 isn’t even beta yet, is it safe to install it in a different folder and connect to the same DB that current live 1.2 runs off for testing purposes. Maybe even in read only, for template development etc.

I haven’t been on the forums lately and can’t say if it has been discussed a lot, but I’d like to point out to WordPress’ success. Both from the development standpoint (automatic updates of plug-ins and core software alone are enough to sell one’s soul to the devil), and marketing. I think popularity and development feed off of each other — the more popular software is, the more developers it attracts, and with pure manpower the mountains can be turned over.

So, what we need to look at is how to attract people (most valuable resource of any project) and how to organize their work in the most efficient manner for the project, and with the most satisfaction for the contributors.

Here’s another take. As simple as it is, it works so far.

I’m still waiting for beta3, so I could start converting my text-based anti-spam (MattF’s, to be proper) for the new soft.

1.2 is still a current final release of FluxBB, so it wouldn’t be prudent to completely forgo its support or respective wiki. wink

Version 1.3 is completely different beast, new code and everything, practically incompatible. However, new hook system offers one-click extension install, so once respective extensions shall become available all you have to do is download, unpack, upload to extension folder of the forum, then activate through admin panel.

Haha, Germans were as pathetic against Spaniards, as we were. Well, it was 44 long years for Spain, let them relish the moment.

Germany doesn’t always play crap. In 2006 Deutchland looked much better, more agressive and purposeful in attack, although it was same team, just younger (Home advantage? Coach? Who is this Joahim feller anyway?). I am still saddened by the unfortunate exit of Argentina at the hands of the Fritzes, but Germany was good nonetheless. Not this time around, seriously, be honest to yourself.

As for calling us one of the best teams in the tournament, I appreciate the flattering notion, but honestly, it’s a long shot. Not that Spain is going to destroy us again — first game was more of a defensive train wreck. We actually looked potent in attack, just played poorly in crucial moments, and Spaniards’ last goal was scored from an offside position.

But it’s going to be tough. Spain is classy, and dangerous. For us it was big success even to come out of the group stage of a major tournament. We didn’t do it since 1988. And after Holland game we sure start dreaming big, for it was spectacular performance, but I sure don’t want to be overly saddened by a sight of such high hopes being crashed. Players determined, and we’ll support them 111%, but I’d still keep our hopes low.

But I am confident that if we beat Spain we must take the gold home.

I’d have to agree with that. smile

How did they win it? One beautiful goal on the counter, and the rest of the time kicking the ball out forward. Not a single decent attack, 2 goals from free kicks, for which Portugal cannot blame nothing but its own poor marking (nevermind referee neglecting to call Ballack’s push in the defender’s back before he scored). Germany didn’t win, Portugal lost that game for them while looking a much better side.

I don’t have to dream, Germany plays like crap.

Italy is out, so if we keep our form and avenge our defeat to Spaniards, we sure must be able to beat either Turkey or Germany in the final.

Well, they did in 1988 by an insane van Basten’s goal against the very same Soviet Union in final game. That’s better than the Soviet Union/Russia, who didn’t win EURO since 1956 (plust 2 final appearances, 4th place in the WC and couple Olympic titles) and, for instance, Spain, which last won a major tournament only in 1964.

Wow, that was something. I never in 15 years I followed my team have seen it dominate quality opposition so much as they did against Sweden and Holland. yikes
