Are your files being hotlinked?
Also if there are even just a few sites hosted on that small vps it wouldn`t take a lot of trafic at all to eat up the ram.

No lie you said you weren`t sure if it was implemented and if it was it should be tested. So I tried it.
As far as I know, the update script does not allow upgrading from v1.3. If it does, this should at least be tested thoroughly.

Yes and that would be incorporated into the upgrade script. Not weired but maybe confusing to some.
A newly requested password works and I notice the extension related tables aren`t dropped. So on the surface it appears to work on the whole with just a bit of work needed.
A more trained eye will most likely pick up anything my unskilled eye missed but that`s a start at least. I`ll post again if I notice anything else.

Right to get the upgrade to run you need to change FORUM to PUN in config.php. The upgrade completes successfully but your no longer able to login, wrong username/password message is given.
Hope that helps.

Acording to track this may or may not be possible yet. I tried it and got this message,
This file must be run from the forum root directory.
If it is possible then this hurdle should be fixed so it can be tested. I commented out the check that causes that message in db_update.php and got a blank page so maybe it`s not.

Both this forum and the one over at PunBB has the capability to ban a user. If they don't want to hear what Bert has to say, the admins have the power.
I wasn`t singleing you out Bert. I`m just sick of hearing about the past and what went wrong. Those who know, know and those who are new don`t really need to wade through thread after thread of it. It`s better of in the past and kept there so energies can be wholely put into the future. Is all.
Of course talk about what you like, this is just my opinion. No need to take it personally.

Wow, I was not aware of this. Thanks! Cheeky buggers not asking if they can install a ff extension and shame on ff for allowing it to go ahead silently aswell.
I need .net though so I`ll be disabling the plugin instead.

How dare they indeed.
EDIT: better removal link

Whatever has happened I don`t think it`s good to keep dragging it up, leave it in the past and lets move forward. Which is what the majority is doing already, I`m trying to anyway.

Regarding Search etc, i readed a post in Punres.org, i think it might intrest you people as it mention an alternate search engine.
I mentioned that link here, there doesn`t seem to be a working permanent solution for fultext search on 1.2/4 atm and it seems another engine may be better.

Yeah but reading the suport thread it`s not maintained and has bugs. I`m not aware of any others available.
Reading Koos`s reply again though maybe sphinx would be better.

Anyone planning a mod for this for 1.4?

I meant there is obviously a benefit but maybe only to the big beasts, which FluxBB is not...

IPB aren`t stupid, they wouldn`t cache if wasn`t necessary. But then IPB is a whole different beast to FluxBB. ![]()

If your on shared hosting qie their idea of high cpu usage may not actually be that high, it`s just your using more than they`d like you to be. Like the others have said you need to find out more details.
Regarding the op, IPB stores the parsed post, users still have options on what`s displayed and it doesn`t seem slow. Don`t know how they deal with it but it may be worth looking into.

Maybe try copy/paste the one`s that don`t work from the wiki article.

I`ll try to explain myself better in future, I think there has been some confusion here but hopefully I can clear it up here.
My origional post was just to point out that linking to an uncompressed version is a good idea to keep it useable for everyone, not just the origional file holder.
I`m not disputing the fact that manually compressing CSS can significantly reduce the size, that`s the whole point of doing it in the first place. I`m saying that it`s not worth the effort as the only time manual compression offers a worthy benifit is when the server doesn`t do any compressing (not that often).
Of course every little helps but if the server is compressing it already then the gain is so little it`s not really worth the effort.
#21 Re: Show off » OxygenB » 2009-01-24 00:32:19
- xable
First compression: Removing white space, comments ect.
Second compression: By server.
#22 Re: Show off » OxygenB » 2009-01-23 16:18:17
- xable
MattF, I was refering to the benefits of compressing twice (I presume Connor was too) and not the potential space saving, that is obvious, at least for me.
For the few that browse without cache it`s only of benefit if the server isn`t compressing them.
#23 Re: Show off » OxygenB » 2009-01-22 18:01:15
- xable
Is it really worth it xable, css files are generally cached.
Probably not, some people disable cache but probably not enough to make it worth it. If you insist on cutting the size down though I think it`s a good idea to have the origional available too.
I wouldn`t encourage realeasing a compressed version either, I said that more for the individual who might want to take the route of compressing.
#24 Re: Show off » OxygenB » 2009-01-21 12:54:58
- xable
You could heavily compress the CSS but leave a comment at the top with a link to the uncompressed version. I`ve done that in the past.
Obviously you wouldn`t want to do it untill your happy with the CSS because constantly compressing it can get annoying.

Llike a few others I wonder where Paul is and even if he is OK!
I presumed that he would speak out in the other thread when he was ready/had time but that hasn`t happened and even in this announcement there is no sign of him or even a mention.
Because of Paul`s silence (public at least) and the lack of him being mentioned in these plans it says to me he has ceased all involvement either permanently or temporarily. I hope this is not the case.
Whatever's going on, I`m sure FluxBB will be taken in the best possible direction and that there will be plenty of support for the project, where possible from myself included.
