SuperMAG. It isn't a competition, and they aren't 'ahead'. There is a good reason that FluxBB hasn't even been released as a full Beta yet, and that is because it is not yet ready. To label it a release candidate just to 'keep up', would be sheer lunacy.

I am running Apache and PHP on my home vista machine without any problems. The only issue at the moment is the noise my box makes at night, and that i'm having trouble with php recognizing mysql.
Slight self contradiction there? ![]()
I'd agree on the self hosting part, btw. I do too. BSD rather than Linux here though.

What is the difference between punBB and FluxBB? They both look identical and from what I read on the punbb site, it would appear that even the same markup and code is being used.
Must admit, I've spent most of the day wondering if the Pun chaps have just thought sod it and renamed Flux to Pun.
Only thing which makes me think not is the fact that I never saw Flux mentioned in any of the copyrights I had a peek at. (To see if they had done that).
So personally, I've no idea.

like a custom pages extension. you need to make other mods to use that. or other stuff. there will be millions of extensions that may be need to be active for mods too.
Nope. Still not plausible.

Last time I tried Linux I screwed it up after a day because I tried to install a program.
Whereas Windoze is screwed from the moment you install it.

You should never 'need' to give anyone admin priviledges. Simple fact. If you do and they screw you, you have only yourself to blame. And seeing as you have access to the db, it is fairly moot. But, personally, over my dead body would anyone other than I get admin privs. There is neither need nor reason. Moderators have enough power to do all that is generally required.
#858 Re: FluxBB discussion » We need a style contest » 2008-06-17 23:55:51

Maybe a styles column at the frontpage of the FluxBB site that shows some random styles? ^^
A style switcher for the most recently added styles might be an idea too.

Sorry, I'm just over sensitive about anything posted here which could be taken as knocking PunBB. I wanted to make it clear its not something I/we are encouraging before it escalates. No doubt I was a bit quick off the mark. If I offended you I apologise. I opened the thread again and removed my comment.
No worries.
When you put it like that, I can see how my original thread might have been misconstrued. It was not intended in that vein, however. ![]()
Just as a side note, there is no way I'd ever slate fun or be ungrateful for all the hard work that yourself and the others have put into PunBB and FluxBB. I am extremely grateful for all you chaps have done. ![]()
My apologies if I appeared extremely prickly in my first post of this thread, btw. ![]()
Thanks.

It was not intended to stir anything up, and the humour was found in the picture that was posted and nothing more.
Are personal opinions or observations suddenly so outlandish and unsuitable to be posted in an off-topic section?
That was bloody poor form on closing that thread. It was intended as a dig at no-one. It was merely an observation.
Feel free to delete or close this thread too, as I'm sure you will.
Edit: Plus, if you had paid any notice whilst you were over there earlier Paul, you would have noticed that any thoughts I had regarding the new teams actions over there were mentioned out in a non too subtle manner specifically on the board where it is relevant:

Well, just nipped onto the pun site for the first time in a week or two, and I honestly have to say, the new blokes are making a complete cockup with regards to community support. Questions galore on there, and sod all in the way of any devs trying to help out. It looks like it's on a fast train to nowhere at the moment.

True, however for me i know i have 5 sites to develope in fluxbb, not just install a mod and change a style, modifiy allot, and have notthing better to do at the moment.
Im hoping it will be relased in 1-2 weeks at the Max.
A job well done takes time. It takes as long as it takes. Rushing leads to a sloppy job and nothing more, so it is far better to wait.

If it checked the db for new posts, that would be a query. Read again what Paul said above.

Just wondering why the function to strip the dodgy characters:
http://fluxbb.org/trac/changeset/233
uses array_map with the callback rather than just a straight str_replace? Been looking at that one for a while, but can't figure out what difference it makes. ![]()
Cheers.

It isn't, in truth.
We call it British Summer Time.

Some more info would be helpful. What version will you be using? 1.2* or 1.3*? How exactly do you want to tie in? A cron type script, or the likes of an extension if using 1.3*?

Then the webhost or whatever surely also has his or her own rules by which he/she can suspend your bought product if you breaks them.
They do indeed. Rules, however, are specific to the company or corporation, and have no context outside of your agreement with that company. Laws are a totally different thing.

The country in which your service resides also dictates the laws by which it is governed.

1) How can the registrar verify this? I've used fake addresses with almost all my domain names. The other's I pay the extra couple dollars to make it private.
Make them private if you wish, but providing fake details is, well........... Do you put a legitimate e-mail contact address on them, or is that faked too?

Who would start using FluxBB 1.2.* anyways without planning to switch to 1.3 when it is released
There are plenty of people running 1.2.* who will be in no rush whatsoever to move over to 1.3*
