Topic: Development team annoucement
This is the annoucement we have made on PunBB.org
Hello all,
Some of you may have been wondering about the future of PunBB and the current development team following Rickard's announcement that he will not be actively involved with PunBB, at least for the time being. To cut to the chase, Neal (Smartys), Paul, Kristoffer (Jansson) and I have, with regret, decided that we are unable to continue our involvement with the development of PunBB.
We all became involved with PunBB largely because we shared Rickard's vision of the project. We were all happy to defer to his views on the future development of PunBB, especially since the project was his "baby," so to speak. Now that circumstances have changed with the inevitable shift of power within the project, we all feel that we need a degree of control over future development which is no longer possible. We all share a desire to develop software for the benefit of the community and ourselves, without commercial concerns influencing the final product. This is not a condemnation of PunBB's current owners: we simply feel that this change is necessary so that we as developers can maintain full control over the development process.
Despite this change, we are not abandoning the PunBB community. As we promised in the past, we have started our own fork of PunBB called FluxBB. We are continuing to develop the 1.3 branch of PunBB (re-branded as FluxBB) and have released a new beta version of it along with some extensions. We will also support and continue to provide security updates for the 1.2 branch of PunBB. As a part of that promise, we have released FluxBB 1.2.18, a stability update for 1.2 which fixes several known issues with 1.2.17. We hope that everyone can check out our site and that those who wish to do so will register and become a part of our new community.

I wanted answers from the developement team. What you quoted does not imply an answer either way.

We haven't made a rule about it, but probably we will at least cut back on the amount of posting we do there. If we're fully in both places, there's little incentive for people to move over here.

Sounds good to me.
Your latter point is what I was getting at. Its you that made me not think twice about moving here. Other people will no doubt do the same.

Are there any contractual clauses that prevent Rickard joining FluxBB if he wishes to in the future?

Re: Development team annoucement
i thought that too ... if rickard joined here then the new owner will say he raped him ... first sold him the project ... and copied his to new one ...

None that we're aware of, but I have a feeling he's a bit busy with other things right now.

Nothing intriguing about it. Take a look at his blog.

Apologies if this is somewhere, if it is I certainly missed it.
Have we had an official response from Rickard?

No but you can rest assured we wouldn't have done anything behind his back or in fact done anything at all if he was still actively involved. Maybe he will say something when he gets back from his honeymoon.

Re: Development team annoucement
Thanks for your huge work but i have just one innocent question..is there any warranty that something like this "split" wont happen in few months also in FluxBB team ? Im asking cause i was using punbb for more than 2 years and i would like to switch to 1.3 when its full on my live web portal. But im kinda afraid to lose kind of "stability, comfort and full service" as ive got it during using punbb
pls..dont take this as any kind of offense..im just a bit worried user

Well there never has been a split in the team. I was working with Rickard before 1.2 was released and the others were all active members before later becoming part of the development team. The major change has been that Rickard, at least for the time being, ceased his active involvment. Other than that we are just carrying on doing what we always did under a new name. The other members of the original team you have probably seen listed haven't been active for some time. As for "stability, comfort and full service" well apart from Rickard the person most responsible for providing that is Neal (Smartys) and he's here.
As for some kind of "warranty" I can't think of anything we can do or say which would constitute such a thing. In the end you just have to make up your own mind.
