Topic: FluxBB reviewed by Forum Software Reviews

Hi all !

Just for information, we've just released the FluxBB review on Forum Software Reviews :

FluxBB Review

Hope it could interest you.

In any case, thank you for developing an alternative to the commercial PunBB.

Do not hesitate to report any mistake you found.

Re: FluxBB reviewed by Forum Software Reviews

Norms respect and accessibility are one of the best point of PunBB.

I guess it's supposed to say FluxBB ?

PunBB is a very fast software, and does not need T1 connection for every members of your community.

Webmasters who are looking for forum software with many and many features will not find their happiness with PunBB, but those with minimal requirements or who need to install and customize quickly a forum will be delighted by PunBB.

Too much cut'n paste? big_smile

That rank for installation is surely gonna change to very easy once 1.3 is out. Also I'd change the demo board link to this domain, the official forums are the best demo you can find.

Yes, you're right, as soon as FluxBB 1.3 will be released, the Review will be updated, as the FluxBB Live Demo, and clearly, the Installation rank will increase in the next release ;-)

Please note that in 2007, PunBB was sold to a commercial company. Its main developer, Richard Andersson has now stopped the PunBB development, even if PunBB is still released with the GPL License.

Due to these events, FluxBB is now the official fork of PunBB.

I'm wondering for the meaning of even in "even if PunBB is still released with the GPL License".
PunBB will remain under GPL in any way. And Ricard has left PunBB for personal reasons only (not related with the devs/company/license...).

And what is an "official fork"? Are there unofficial ones? Who approves GPL forks? :-)

Both forums live, grow and have their devs and communities.
And that is good.

Yes, but the PunBB project, for many people, has lost its soul, and selling a project rights to a company is never a good idea.

An "official fork" is a fork that successfully aggregate a developer team and a community behind it. (generally it also takes developers which were supporting the forked project).

IMHO, Joomla could be considered as an official fork of Mambo.

Re: FluxBB reviewed by Forum Software Reviews

In the features section, how about replacing the "No" in some cases with an "Extension" or something similar?

Re: FluxBB reviewed by Forum Software Reviews

Hard to install? What a biggest mistake!

Before January 24th, you'll see why FluxBB 1.2 won't be like "FluxBB 1.2."

Yes, of course, this is possible, just indicate which features are available as extension (and a link to these extension of course)

Simply compare the FluxBB 1.2.20 installation process to other big board softwares, and yes, it is harder. Not harder for someone that knows PHP/MySQL, but to a newbie, that even doesn't understand what a config.php file could mean.

But, as I said previously, the rating will change when FluxBB 1.3 will be out
