Topic: What should I use?

i'm trying to find a good small forum software and realy like fluxbb/punbb. which one is better in the long run? is it true that fluxbb is now ahead?

also i'm going to be makin lots of changes to the code so say I choose to use a dev or beta version of it, will i be able to patch upgrade those to the final release? i cant just use the files because of the changes i make to the code.

thanks a lot

mike

Re: What should I use?

Currently and to the foreseeable future, the main difference is the community. Choose the one you feel.

Re: What should I use?

This is not to attack anyone but just a general question. Do you people who make these topics about which software you should use (punbb/fluxbb) think before you post these? Just imo why would you expect to have people who are frequent users of fluxbb tell you to use punbb on the fluxbb forums?

With that said getting back on topic. If you search the forum you will probally find like 100 posts related to this same question. Check those posts out.

Re: What should I use?

I'm asking on both websites to know what people thing, and see the reasons they support that. I did look around a bit but I saw no evidence of why.

I really need to know this: Can I manually upgrade (patch files) from the beta 2 to the final release?

Re: What should I use?

Yes you should be able to, either using the SVN or I think trac lets you download .diff files too. However technically you should try use the hooks to make an extension to make the changes you want, if you can.

Re: What should I use?

I'll look into the hooks thing and try it, thanks

Re: What should I use?

You should use FluxBB. I've submitted the reason in YouTube.

Before January 24th, you'll see why FluxBB 1.2 won't be like "FluxBB 1.2."

Wow, chill dude.  It's certainly confusing have to separate forums and websites for essentially the same exact software.  I don't blame ANYONE for asking (because I did the same thing), and I got very vague answers.  Is there a difference?  Not really...at least not that anybody could tell me.  Which one is "better"?  Well, since they are pretty much exactly the same, neither are better than the other, but as Jérémie said the communities are what you should look for.

Re: What should I use?

Northsider if you are going to post something useless like I did at least still post something related to the actual topic.

/si hiw bout we get back on track and answer the topic post. Thanks.

Re: What should I use?

No need to argue tongue The point was valid (chances are people here will say FluxBB is better and people at PunBB will say it is better), it just could have been said in a slightly less offensive way.

If you need any help there is a guide in the wiki on developing extensions.
