I had similar difficulty like kadir using sub form. While all the pains have been taken by kadir and I got the simple solution through Franz's code. Thank God it's an old thread and I came late to visit.
However, I also agree that sub forum modification is not essential though. Thanks Franz and kadir.

You can already use those extra variables, just use:
search.php?action=search&...

and then add

keywords = keywords
author = username (not user_id)
forum = forum_id or -1 for all forums
search_in = all/message/topic
sort_by = 0 (post_time) / 1 (author) / 2 (subject) / 3 (forum)
sort_dir = DESC/ASC
show_as = topics/posts

with a & between each variable you would like to use.

Thanks mate. I can't believe I missed that (or didn't realise it was happening). I don't remember including another parser.php in post.php (nor see any reason why I'd need to) but simply adding it to the top and removing the others fixed it. Cheers for the fast reply!

EDIT: It's still weird that it works fine on the Windows machine!

Anyway, if you want different icons, you need to give a different class name to each line (you have to modify the code, not just the css).

Good to hear that everything is working again. And it's no surprise that the host screwed things up with the migration. Luckily they have finally managed to figure that out themselves.
