All of the network traffic goes through a packet filter. There was a 'set skip on lo' rule to avoid filtering on the loopback interface but later in the rule set I think a 'block all' default deny policy might have undone the 'set skip on lo' rule... Not sure. Still have some tinkering and postmortem experimenting to do but bypassing the priority queueing seems to have fixed the "Unable to connect to PostgreSQL server" problem.

You can enable debug mode by adding this line to your config.php:

define('PUN_DEBUG', 1);

To get even more detailed information on queries, you can also add this line:

define('PUN_SHOW_QUERIES', 1);

NOTE: Debug mode is only intended for debugging and should be turned off again when you are done with debugging. This is especially relevant for the second constant which adds query information to every single page, not just error pages.
