Create a converter

To increase adoption of FluxBB it would be incredibly beneficial to have a converter which supports converting from various popular forum software to FluxBB.
I wonder if this should be designed as a stand alone tool, or if a better approach would be to ship it with FluxBB - and allow users to choose between a fresh install or upgrade, where they are currently just presented with the install screen.

I would vote external tool on first thought. The converter will require quite a lot of maintenance, due to having to keep forum versions up-to-date.
Then again, if designed well, the actual core of the upgrade script shouldn't need much changes, which in turn would mean that once we have a package importer implemented for some forum system, it should not change anymore. So, all we would have to do would be adding new forum versions.
However, I think this would increase the size of the download package too much, with more and more forum packages being added, as having these available for download separately would contradict having the converter integrated in the installer in the first place.

Actually, depending on the design, an integrated solutions might have the benefit of being an easy way to provide update functionalities for modifications that were installed with the forum that is to be upgraded. Only if done right, of course...
