Introducing FluxBB
FluxBB is an open source forum application released under the GNU General Public Licence. It is free to download and use and will remain so. FluxBB was conceived and designed to be fast and light with less of the "not so essential" features that some of the other forums have whilst not sacrificing essential functionality or usability. Some features of particular note are:
- Support for MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite
- Support for PHP 4 and PHP 5
- Produces XHTML 1.0 Strict valid pages
- Easily translated into any language
- Support for UTF-8 (v1.4)
- Valid CSS2.1 utilised
The story so far
FluxBB is a fork of PunBB, which was created by Rickard Andersson. The current developers of FluxBB are:
- Connor Dunn (Connorhd)
- Kristoffer Jansson
- Ben Fondu (elbekko)
- Jamie Furness (Reines)
In 2007 PunBB was sold to a commercial company. Development continued under the direction of Rickard Andersson until April 2008. At that time Rickard Andersson announced he would be ceasing his active involvement with the project at least temporarily.
In light of the changed circumstances the remaining members of the development team decided they needed to exert more control over the direction of the project which meant the only option was to fork the project; hence FluxBB. The original developers involved in the fork were:

- Neal Poole (Smartys)
- Kristoffer Jansson
- Paul Sullivan
The current stable release of FluxBB 1.2.22 is an update to PunBB v1.2.17. The next version, FluxBB v1.4, is under active development and is currently at the beta stage.
What the future holds
The development team's immediate aim is an early release of FluxBB v1.4. Further details regarding the development of FluxBB v1.4 can be found on the development page. As a service to the existing PunBB community they will continue to provide support for PunBB v1.2.
In the longer term, the aim is to produce high quality open source forum software which continues to live up to the standards set by Rickard Andersson whilst taking full account of changing trends and technologies.
